Grabbing a Pint with Chris: Cheers to Christmas 2024 and What's Brewing for 2025!

Shannen Windle

As the festive spirit dies down, I recently caught up with Chris, our My Yorkshire Pubs director, over a pint. We reflected on the whirlwind that was Christmas 2024. Our pubs buzzed with laughter, clinking glasses, and the delightful scent of festive treats. Chris shared insights about our successful festive season and what he anticipates for an even better 2025. Let’s dive into our conversation!

A Festive Season to Remember

Christmas 2024 was truly unforgettable in our pubs. The decorations were stunning, featuring twinkling fairy lights and rustic garlands. Chris noted, “We had a fantastic response to our Christmas Fayre menu & Festive Specials, with new dishes becoming instant favourites among regulars and newcomers alike.”

The team went above and beyond this year, ensuring that everything from food to entertainment, drinks to sport was top-notch. Our pub hosted Christmas quiz nights and famous Tribute Nights, which attracted hundreds of locals every week during December.

The Banner Cross had a packed December calendar with Brass Band Night, Christmas Movie Night, Live Sessions and much more. Not forgetting the epic Boxing Day of football, which was a complete smash as always. Chris commented "The Banner Cross has been crowned Sports Pub of the Year for a reason and Christmas is no exception. Well done to Sophie and her team."

Over to The Droppingwell, the place to be in Kimberworth at Christmas. Live Music every Thursday, Friday & Saturday throughout December, plus Breakfast with Santa event which was a sell out in record time. Our Christmas Fayre menu went down an absolute treat as always, our Director Chris gave us some statistics on the sucess of our menu "Throughout December we sold a total of 836 of our 3 course festive fayre at The Droppingwell. The customers favourite meal combination was Prawn Cocktail starter followed by Traditional Turkey and Salted Caramel Torte." I think the customers got that festive menu choice spot on.

"Our Hive sites, The Haynook & The Cross Keys thrived as always this Christmas. A well thoughtout food & drink menu supplied from the Hive Franchise and Greene King was they key." Chris remarks. "A special mention to JP, Kayleigh & the team at The Cross Keys, for working on their Christmas Day to provide some brilliant meals to customers". The Haynook hosted a range of festive events, including two sell out Breakfast with Santa mornings and a Christmas Market to support local businesses and give them a place to sell their products. Fantastic commnity support!

Lastly, our gem of West Yorkshire, The Three Horseshoes. Christmas is not the busiest time for our Otley Run icon but the team still worked tirelessly this festive period. We hope you managed to get some rest, because you have another busy year ahead.

Customer Engagement and Community Spirit

During the busy festive season, Chris noted our strong ability to engage with patrons. “We hosted several events, from quiz nights to live music, bringing people together,” he reflected. The community spirit was vibrant, with locals celebrating not just Christmas but the welcoming atmosphere of our pubs.

“It’s always heartwarming to see families and friends unite over good food and drinks. We strive to be a home away from home,” said Chris. This strong connection is what sets us apart. Feedback surveys indicated that 90% of customers felt a sense of belonging, which they believe enhances their overall experience.

What’s Brewing for 2025?

With 2025 in full swing, Chris is optimistic about future opportunities. He hinted at plans for expanding our menu, prioritising inclusivity. “We want to incorporate more plant-based and gluten free options to give all our diners the best possible meal choices to enhance their overall experience. We are also focusing more on sourcing local produce as much as possible, and strive to be more sustainable. It’s the future!” he exclaimed. Last year, dishes made from local ingredients led to a 20% drop in food costs due to reduced transportation expenses, demonstrating that sustainable choices can also be smart business decisions.

There’s also excitement around potential new locations. “We’ve identified a few spots that could use a pub with our character. We’ll announce soon!” Chris stated enthusiastically. The aim is to extend our joyful pub experience to more communities while maintaining our core values.

Cheers to a Bright Future

Reflecting on my conversation with Chris, it’s clear that Christmas 2024 was a monumental success for My Yorkshire Pubs. The festive season showcased our commitment to great food, community engagement, and a welcoming atmosphere. As we gear up for 2025, I’m excited about the possibilities that await us. Here’s to another year of laughter, connection, and filling our pubs with joy. Cheers to the journey ahead!
